This is a practical based Level 3 course, designed for learners who wish to progress down the apprenticeship route, focussing on the development of practical engineering skills.

You will be given practical hands on experience that will support an apprenticeship or employment in industry.

Studying this Level 3 Mechanical Engineering course will teach you about the health and safety of engineering, the principles of engineering and mechanical manufacturing engineering and machining materials by turning.

You will also learn about the detailed fittings of materials, and will produce drawings using CAD.

This qualification is the Level 3 Diploma is Engineering (Mechanical Engineering).


Entry requirements

If you are a new applicant, you will require a Level 2 Engineering Operations qualification (must include Machining) plus four GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C-A*) including maths and English (or equivalent). Existing Lakes College learners must have achieved a Pass grade in a Level 2 qualification plus four GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C-A*) including maths and English (or equivalent).

Costs

Free to all 16-18 year olds. Funding may be available for 19-23 year olds. Advanced Learning Loans are available for further education courses at Level 3, 4 & 5. They operate like higher education loans with deferred payments until you earn over approximately £25,000 per year- information available at www.gov.uk
You have the option of taking out a loan or setting up a payment plan with the college that best suits your needs. Actual Cost is: £3345.00. All costs are subject to slight changes.

What next?

Once you have successfully completed the Level 3 course you can progress on to a higher apprenticeship within your chosen field or on to higher education.
