Learner Case Study: Sienna Jenkinson

Case study

Sienna Jenkinson is a former T Level Design, Surveying and Planning learner who is currently studying a Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship at Altrad.

She is currently working as an Apprentice Estimator / QS at Altrad. Day to day she takes part in meetings, completes estimates for smaller projects and observes the early stages of tenders and larger estimates.

When asked why she chose a T Level as her route of further education she said: “I was always interested in construction after doing my digital construction GCSE in secondary school.

“I had thought about apprenticeships but was interested in getting more education so I could eventually do a degree apprenticeship.

“T Levels stood out to me because they are equivalent to three A Levels but are much more interactive and specialised to one area”

Sienna added: “I liked the practical elements and the different career opportunities I would have after completing my T Level.”

When asked about the support she receives on her course, Sienna said: “My lecturers ensured that lessons were engaging and interactive, asking questions and setting job specific tasks which prepared me for real work tasks.”

Quote

“My time on the course felt personal to me, and I felt like my lecturers truly cared about the outcome of my exams and time at college”

Sienna was asked about what advice she would give to somebody who is considering taking a T Level and she said: “I would consider taking a T Level.

“Not only do you get job specific knowledge, but also valuable industry placement time where you get to see what a typical day at work could be like for you and get a feel for what career you’d like to go into.

“This helped me when applying for apprenticeships.”
