AN INSPIRATIONAL lecturer has been honoured in a national teaching awards scheme at a surprise celebration.

Anna Lister has been awarded a Bronze Pearson National Teaching Award for Further Education Lecturer of the Year.

Anna’s colleagues at Lakes College nominated her for the prestigious accolade, and she found out yesterday (WEDS) – on National Thank a Teacher Day – that her hard work had been recognised.

Anna said: “I am very proud and honoured to receive this award.

“I’m very lucky to work with such an amazing team in an inspirational and forward thinking college.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed helping our fabulous learners achieve this year, despite all of the barriers they’ve faced.”

Anna is an influential member of the maths and English team at the Lillyhall-based College, and the project lead for the Centre of Excellence for Maths at the college.

Lakes College Principal Chris Nattress said he was delighted that Anna had received the award for her commitment and dedication to teaching.

He said: “It’s fantastic news for Anna, fantastic news for the college and her students.

“Hats off to Anna for everything she does. This award isn’t just a months’ worth of work, this is a lifetime of hard work Anna has put in at the college and with her students.

“We are thrilled to bits for Anna, the team she works with and most importantly, the students that benefit from her teaching!”

Michelle Proudman, Curriculum Team Leader for English, said: “The maths and English team are thrilled for Anna winning her Pearson Teaching Award! She works so hard to help all of our learners and staff to be the best that they can be. She deserves the thanks and recognition for the support she offers us in the team and around the college.”

Eliza Treme-Swailes, director of further and higher education, said: “It is a wonderful achievement for Anna, the college and West Cumbria, but ultimately it is our learners who benefit from being taught by committed, talented and inspirational teachers like Anna.  The college is lucky to have her!”
